Social Justice Retreat
“Maybe the Next Hero is Community”, a SUUF Social Justice Retreat
In these times when we are overwhelmed with news of destruction, we must claim and protect our humanity as we work for a world where all can thrive. Rebecca Solnit recently said “Maybe the community is the next hero. ……maybe it’s about the fact that changing the world is more like caregiving than it is like war ….and too many think it looks like war.”
This retreat will support us in deepening our humanity through centering our UU values and becoming “islands of sanity in a sea of chaos”, shaping possible futures. The retreat has 2 focus areas-identifying “best fit” role/s we offer in service to life; and deepening our ability to build more resilient communities we are a part of. The retreat continues the thread started last June with work on being prepared for disasters. We explore these themes in service to life, including the life within each one of us requiring support, self-care, clarity, joy and love.
Activities sourced from the UU Common Read book of 2024: Social Change Now: A Guide for Reflection and Connection and pulled from the field on Good Neighbors (think Mr. Rogers!) will fill the day.
“If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.”
Come and explore together!
