SUMMARY:Dance Night with the Shy Bees
DESCRIPTION:The Shy Bees\, a blues-rock group featuring vocalist Chris Scheibe\, will make their debut live performance at Skagit Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (SUUF) Saturday night\, September 12. Chris\, along with drummer Mike Buckholz\, began recording a music project during the pandemic years. The SHY BEES album entitled Melittology\, was released to all music streaming sites in 2024. The album included 11 different musicians\, including major contributions from Ron LaViscione on guitar and Mark Williams on bass. Mike\, Chris\, Ron and Mark now comprise the band\, The Shy Bees\, and play a mix of blues and classic rock. \nMusic starts at 6 p.m. and ends around 8 p.m. The doors open at 5 p.m. with a $5 donation to the Skagit Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. Youth and children ages 16 and under are free. Please bring your own beverages (BYOB); and alcohol is allowed for adults. We will spend 5 months reading and discussing the book together. SUMMARY:Film & Pizza Night for Adults
DESCRIPTION:Social Justice is holding a Film & Pizza Night for Adults on Saturday\, September 19\, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at SUUF. \nThe film is The Sharps War\, about Martha and Rev. Waitsill Sharp\, who went to Nazi Europe to help refugees\, especially children\, escape the Nazis\, starting when Czechoslovakia was first invaded. They were called by the UU church\, and ended up going on several successful missions. \nThis is a very serious and moving film\, lasting 85 minutes. Pizza and soda\, (and tissue) will be provided. There will be time after for support and discussion. \nAt great sacrifice\, ordinary people stepped up to the call. Please come to listen and see their story.

DESCRIPTION:The SUUF members interested in social justice issues-discussion\, projects\, actions-and interested in meeting via Zoom can join the 3rd Monday of every month. Join and hear what others bring to discuss and/or bring your the items\, actions\, you want to engage others with. \nStarting in September the SUUF Social Justice Committee will begin a year’s long engagement with Heather Vickery\, UU Coordinator for Congregational Activism\, UU Service Committee. Heather came to SUUF and offered a service April 19\, 2026 Joy is the Secret of Resistance. \nPart of Heather’s role is to support congregations and explore how to best live our UU values as congregations. Heather will help us have some deep conversations about this topic–we will see what emerges. I think it promises to be quite interesting and life giving.
