COMPOST 2026

The SUUF children will be on a journey this spring to harvest the first batch of SUUF compost and create a small herb garden just outside of the Fellowship Hall side exit. All activities will occur during the normal CRE (Children’s Religious Education) service time 10:30-11:30, coordinated by Meriel Kaminsky, and supported by the Social Justice Committee. Dress to engage with soil and compost! Garden gloves could also be handy!

CRE Activity Schedule

May 10th Harvest Compost
May 17th Break Ground
June 7th Plant Herbs
June 14th Ceremony of Thanks

HOW ALL SUUF MEMBERS AND FRIENDS
CAN SUPPORT THE CHILDREN’S HERB GARDEN:

All SUUF members and friends are encouraged to support the children and the herb garden.

GIFT A ROCK: From May 10th to June 7th, ALL SUUF members and friends are welcomed and encouraged to bring ONE ROCK (between 3” to 8”) for the children to create a garden border. Please leave your ONE ROCK under the front entry bushes.

PARTICIPATE IN AN HERB EXCHANGE: On June 7th, a table will be set up outside for an herb exchange. These can be plants, crafts, teas, etc. Leave what you can; take what you need. The children will be planting rosemary, lavender, thyme and then a fourth herb of their choosing from the herb exchange table.

DONATE GARDEN DECORATIONS: Please contact Rebecca Spurling (360) 333-4261 if you are interested in donating a garden decoration. The decorations will be used on June 14th as part of a Ceremony of Thanks, to honor the herbs, and to thank the sun, soil, rain and air (along with the humans), that will care for the herbs.
