Executive Board Meeting, February 10, 2022

Each board meeting opens with a land acknowledgement that our church stands on land stolen from the Coast Salish peoples. They have cared for the land since time immemorial and continue to do so to this day.

  • Phoenix Programs
    • Spiritual Development
      • Engaging Young Fellows and Fellows
        • Secret Pal is going well.
        • Worship Services for the the summer can revolve around “The Summer of Chalica?”
    • Should Greeters be part of Hospitality or Spiritual Development? The Board will check in with these committees during February.
  • Our certification with the Unitarian Universalist Association has been renewed this month.
  • Committee Reports
    • Hospitality
      • As we continue streaming our services, a welcoming presence needs to be made online.
      • Time for New Member Orientation and Recognition needs to be made.
    • Buildings and Grounds
      • Hoping projects to be completed within the church 2 weeks before reopening.
      • The Executive Board voted (according to bylaws) moved $3000 from the Children’s Religious Education budget into Buildings & Grounds. This is a one-time reallocation.
      • This summer, the Executive Board wishes to craft a policy regarding restricted donations.
      • Movement continues towards getting new countertops installed in the kitchen.
      • The B&G committee will proceed with getting landscaping quotes and service.
    • Re-opening
      • The committee will draft and publish a letter to congregants.
      • Paper cups to replace mugs for now.
      • Audio/visual equipment will support best practices for avoiding the spread of Covid-19
      • Rental policy will be recrafted at the March Executive Board Meeting
    • Financial Report
      • Research regarding the costs associated with Worship to be explored.
      • More income than expenses for January.
      • The Executive Board continues to achieve equitable membership dues expectations with the UUA.
    • Communications
      • The SUUF website will contain a summary of the Executive Board’s minutes (once they have been adopted).
      • The committee continues to send cards to congregants in need.
      • Committee meeting dates to be added to the church calendar to prevent double-booking the church’s Zoom link.
    • Children’s Religious Education
      • Some parents are taking a Parents as Primary Sexual Educators class as a part of the Our Whole Lives curriculum.
      • The inaugural Family Game Night took place over Zoom and was successful.
      • Surprise Pal gift sharing has been successful.
      • Plans should be made to participate in Illuminight.
    • Social Justice
      • One Parish One Prisoner 
        • Can this be a topic of an upcoming service?
        • The team continues to support the prisoner through his hearings.
      • Anti-racism training through Bellingham Unitarian Fellowship in January
    • Social Programming
      • Walking Club continues to meet.
